Steve Katkov is vice president and a regional Manager for First American Exchange Company, LLC, a Qualified Intermediary facilitating tax-deferred exchanges of both real and personal property pursuant to section 1031 of the Internal Revenue Code.

Steve focuses his work on facilitating construction and reverse exchanges. He is a frequent speaker on a variety of 1031 exchange topics and has served as an expert witness at trial. He is also a published author on the subject of construction exchanges and personal property issues involving collectibles. Steve published an article in the November 2006 issue of The Hennepin Lawyer, entitled The Tax-Deferred Improvement Exchange under Section 1031 of the IRS Code. The Hennepin Lawyer is published monthly by the Hennepin County Bar Association; Minnesota­'s largest bar association centered in the state­'s largest city, Minneapolis.

Steve is a graduate of Macalester College (BA), Arizona State University (MS) and the University of Minnesota Law School (JD), and he has been a licensed attorney in good standing since 1989. Steve­'s legal experience is broad and includes environmental due diligence and compliance, real estate due diligence and transactional work, land use applications for conditional use permits and variances from zoning code standards, and general business law, ranging from the selection of legal entities based on tax and corporate priorities to corporate governance and intellectual property rights. To complement his professional activities, Steve is an adjunct instructor in the Opus College of Business at the University of St. Thomas, teaching business and real estate law.
